What an AI automation specialist does
An AI automation specialist identifies manual, repetitive processes and builds automated workflows to handle them. Examples include routing incoming emails and forms, extracting information from documents, generating first drafts of routine correspondence, syncing data between systems and building internal assistants that answer staff questions from approved documents. They combine workflow platforms, APIs, scripting and AI models, and they check whether each automation actually saves time.
Automation done carelessly can expose confidential data, repeat errors at scale or leave behind tools nobody understands. A good specialist starts with the process, keeps people involved where judgment matters and documents everything. Finch screens candidates for automations they have built and maintained, their integration and scripting skills, their understanding of privacy and access controls and how realistically they describe what AI tools can and cannot do.
