Skilled trades & industrial recruitmentAutomotive recruitment in Toronto and the GTA

Finch helps dealerships, independent repair shops, collision centres and fleet operators hire licensed technicians and the front-counter people who keep the bays full.

A dealership or repair shop earns its money in the service bays, and an empty technician bay is lost revenue every day it stays open. Finch Employment recruits automotive professionals for new and used car dealers, independent garages, collision repair centres, fleet maintenance departments and heavy equipment dealers across Toronto, York, Peel, Durham and Halton. We also run searches for employers elsewhere in Canada by phone and video from our Toronto office.

Every search follows the same process. We start with a consultation about the role, your shop and the work you do most, then begin the search once the retainer is in place. We advertise, source and screen candidates, including a check of trade certificates on the Skilled Trades Ontario public register where it applies, then arrange interviews with a shortlist. After your new hire starts, we follow up to see how it is going.

Why automotive hiring needs a specialist

Licensed technicians are usually employed and busy, so the strongest candidates rarely answer job ads and need to be approached directly.

Several automotive trades are compulsory in Ontario, which means you cannot legally put someone in the bay without the right certificate or apprenticeship registration.

A resume rarely shows which brands, diagnostic platforms or repair types a technician actually knows, and that decides how quickly they become productive.

Service advisors, parts staff and sales consultants handle your customers and your margins, so a poor hire shows up in reviews, comebacks and gross profit.

How we screen automotive candidates

  • Skilled Trades Ontario certificates of qualification or apprenticeship registration for the trade
  • Brand, equipment and diagnostic software experience matched to your shop
  • OMVIC registration status for anyone selling vehicles
  • Driving record and licence class where the role involves road tests or moving vehicles
  • References from service managers, shop foremen or dealer principals

Automotive recruitment: questions employers ask

Which automotive roles does Finch recruit for?

We recruit automotive service technicians, auto body technicians, heavy-duty equipment technicians, service advisors, parts advisors and automotive sales consultants. If your opening is a related position, such as a shop foreman or service manager, raise it in the consultation and we will tell you plainly whether it fits our search process before any retainer is agreed.

Do you recruit apprentices or only licensed technicians?

Our focus is skilled and licensed staff, but some employers want an apprentice who is already registered and partway through the trade, and we can search for that profile. For compulsory trades in Ontario, an apprentice must have a registered training agreement before working in the trade, so we confirm that status for every candidate.

Can you recruit for a dealership or shop outside Ontario?

Yes. We run searches for employers across Canada by phone and video from our Toronto office. Trade certification and vehicle sales registration are provincial, so we check that each candidate’s Red Seal endorsement or provincial certificate fits the rules where you operate. We only recruit people who are already eligible to work in Canada.
