HR generalist
An HR generalist covers the full range of people work for your organization. Finch finds well-rounded candidates with practical Ontario experience and sound judgement.
HR and payroll staff handle your people, your pay and some of your biggest compliance obligations. Finch recruits qualified professionals with the judgement those responsibilities require.

Human resources and payroll professionals manage the parts of a business that affect every employee: hiring, onboarding, policies, employee relations, benefits and accurate, on-time pay. Finch recruits HR generalists, HR coordinators, HR managers, in-house recruiters, payroll administrators and benefits administrators for employers in Toronto, North York, Vaughan, Markham, Mississauga, Brampton and across the GTA. We work with organizations building their first HR function as well as established teams adding specialists.
Mistakes in HR and payroll are rarely small. A missed remittance, an incorrect final pay or a poorly handled employee issue can be costly and damaging to morale. That is why we confirm professional designations, such as the CHRP and CHRL through HRPA or the PCP through the National Payroll Institute, and test practical knowledge rather than relying on titles. You meet a shortlist of suitable candidates, we arrange interviews and we follow up after the hire starts.
HR and payroll staff handle salaries, personal information and sensitive employee matters, so discretion and trustworthiness must be confirmed, not assumed.
Job titles vary widely, and an HR manager at one company may have done coordinator-level work at another, which makes résumés hard to compare.
Payroll errors affect every employee and can lead to penalties from the Canada Revenue Agency, so hands-on remittance and year-end experience matters.
Strong HR candidates are often employed and not actively looking, so reaching them takes direct sourcing rather than a single job posting.
We run human resources & payroll searches for employers across Toronto and the GTA, including North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Oshawa and Pickering, and for employers across Canada.

How it works
Tell us about the role, your team and your timeline. We agree on a retainer and fees tailored to the position.
Your retainer starts the search. We advertise, source and screen candidates for you.
You meet only suitable candidates. We arrange every interview.
We manage the offer and check in after your new hire starts.
Practising HR in Ontario does not require a designation. The CHRP, CHRL and CHRE titles are granted by the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA), and many employers prefer them because they show formal education and a commitment to professional standards. When you list a designation as a requirement, we confirm the candidate holds it.
A widely recognized payroll credential in Canada is the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP), offered by the National Payroll Institute. It shows a candidate understands source deductions, remittances, records of employment and year-end reporting. It is not mandatory, but it gives you a useful baseline, and we also test hands-on payroll experience during screening.
Yes. If you are hiring your first HR person, we use the consultation to understand your size, growth plans and current pain points, then recommend whether a generalist, a coordinator or a manager makes more sense. Hiring at the right level the first time means you neither pay for experience you do not need nor miss skills you do.
