Finch Employment

Skilled trades & industrial recruitmentWelding and fabrication recruitment in Toronto and the GTA

Finch connects GTA manufacturers, fabrication shops and industrial plants with welders, fabricators, machinists and millwrights who can do the work.

Certified welder welding a steel beam in a fabrication shop

In a fabrication shop or production plant, the quality of your people shows up in every part that leaves the floor. Welders need the right processes and positions, machinists need to read drawings and hold tolerances, and millwrights keep your equipment running. Finch Employment recruits skilled manufacturing trades for fabrication shops, machine shops, manufacturers and industrial plants across Toronto, Vaughan, Mississauga, Brampton and the rest of the GTA.

Every search begins with a consultation about your shop, equipment, materials and shift schedules. After the retainer is paid, we advertise, source and screen candidates, checking credentials such as CWB tickets and Skilled Trades Ontario certificates, and arrange interviews with a shortlist of suitable people. Many employers also run a practical weld or machining test, and we can build that step into the interview stage.

Why welding and fabrication hiring takes a specialist

A welding ticket in one process or position does not prove skill in another, so experience has to be matched to the work you actually do.

Skilled machinists and millwrights are often settled in stable jobs, and reaching them usually means direct outreach rather than a job board.

Shift work, shop conditions and production pace vary from employer to employer, and a mismatch is a common reason new hires leave early.

Blueprint reading, measuring and quality habits are difficult to judge from a resume and need a closer look before the interview.

How we screen welding & fabrication candidates

  • CWB welding tickets by process and position
  • Skilled Trades Ontario certificates such as 433A for millwrights
  • Blueprint and weld symbol reading
  • Experience with your materials, machines and production volumes
  • Shift availability, safety habits and references from shop supervisors

Welding & fabrication recruitment: questions employers ask

What is a CWB ticket?

CWB tickets are welder qualifications tested under the Canadian Welding Bureau system, usually for a specific process, such as SMAW, GMAW or FCAW, and a specific position, such as flat or vertical. Many structural and fabrication employers require them. We ask candidates which tickets they hold and whether they are current, then match them to your work.

Can candidates complete a practical test before we hire?

Yes. Many shops ask welders and machinists to complete a weld test or a short practical task before making an offer. We arrange interviews and can coordinate a test as part of that step, so you see the candidate's skills firsthand. The test design and assessment remain with your team.

Do you recruit for both production and custom fabrication shops?

Yes. Production work rewards speed and consistency, while custom and job shop work calls for more problem solving, layout and fitting skill. We ask about your work mix during the consultation and screen candidates for the type of shop they have worked in, not just their job title.
