Massage therapy is a regulated health profession in Ontario. Only members of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario can call themselves massage therapists or registered massage therapists, and extended health plans generally reimburse only their treatments. For a clinic or spa, hiring the right RMT protects your clients, your reputation and your ability to issue receipts that insurers accept. Hiring the wrong person can put all three at risk.

Massage therapy recruitment: questions employers ask
Can Finch recruit unregistered massage staff for our spa?
No. In Ontario, only College of Massage Therapists of Ontario registrants can use the title massage therapist. For spa roles, we can recruit RMTs, or wellness staff for treatments such as body wraps, scrubs and esthetics, with each role described accurately so no one is presented as a massage therapist without registration.
Do RMTs work as employees or independent contractors?
Both arrangements are common in the GTA. The right structure depends on your business and should be confirmed with your own legal or accounting advisor. What matters for recruitment is that the role is described clearly, including booking, compensation and responsibilities, so candidates can decide quickly.
How do your fees work for massage therapy searches?
Finch works on a retainer basis for every search. We agree a fee for each position based on its requirements, and the retainer is paid up front to begin advertising, sourcing and screening.
