For many British Columbia employers, a large part of hiring is finding people who can live near the job, or who are willing to move to it. A clinic in Kelowna, an engineering consultancy in Burnaby and a forestry operation near Prince George are looking for very different people, but each needs candidates who have thought seriously about the location. Finch builds that conversation into screening, so you spend interview time with people who are likely to accept an offer and stay.

BC has also changed how several professions are regulated in recent years. Nurses and midwives share one college, real estate and mortgage brokers are overseen by the BC Financial Services Authority, SkilledTradesBC has been adding trades that require certification, and a new Health Professions and Occupations Act took effect in 2026. We keep track of these changes and confirm each candidate's standing with the current regulator. Every candidate is already eligible to work in Canada, and your retainer is agreed before the search begins.

Hiring in British Columbia

Vancouver, Burnaby and Richmond

Metro Vancouver has a concentration of technology, film and digital media, and professional services firms, while the Port of Vancouver and Vancouver International Airport in Richmond support a large trade and logistics sector. Employers here regularly look for software developers, supply chain specialists and accountants, often in a competitive market for experienced people.

Surrey and the Fraser Valley

Surrey is one of the region's main growth areas, with construction, manufacturing, health care and a large small-business community. Employers often need site supervisors, estimators, electricians and clinic staff. We check SkilledTradesBC certification for trades that require it and confirm that candidates can manage the commute to sites south of the Fraser River.

Kelowna's economy includes technology, tourism, wineries and health care, and Kamloops and Prince George serve wide regions with hospitals, universities, mining and forestry. How we recruit for employers in British Columbia

The three-hour time difference with Toronto shapes how we work with BC employers. We schedule consultations, candidate calls and interviews in Pacific time and send updates at points in the day that suit you. The search itself follows the same steps as any Finch assignment: a consultation, an agreed retainer for the position, then advertising, sourcing and careful screening against the brief you approved.

For BC roles we pay particular attention to location fit. We ask candidates where they live, how they would commute or whether they are prepared to move, and whether housing costs affect their decision. We verify registration with BC regulators such as BCCNM, Engineers and Geoscientists BC or SkilledTradesBC, then arrange interviews by video or at your premises, support the offer and follow up after the start date.

Recruiting in British Columbia: common questions

Can a Toronto agency recruit effectively for a BC employer?

Yes. Our searches for employers outside Ontario are run entirely by phone and video, and candidate sourcing does not depend on where our office sits. What matters is understanding your local market and BC's licensing rules, which we research for each role. You meet candidates at your premises or by video, whichever suits you.

Do you recruit for trades that require certification in BC?

Yes. Under BC's skilled trades certification system, a number of electrical, mechanical and automotive trades can only be worked by certified tradespeople or registered apprentices. We check each candidate's status with SkilledTradesBC and ask about Red Seal endorsements, which help when a tradesperson trained in another province.

Will a nurse or physician licensed in Ontario need a BC licence?

Generally, yes. Nurses register with BCCNM and physicians with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia before practising in the province, even when they hold a licence elsewhere in Canada. Timing varies by profession and by applicant, so we confirm each candidate's status and plan the start date around it.
