Real estate agent handing condo keys to new owners in Toronto

Real estate businesses depend on people the public trusts with its largest transactions. Brokerages need registered salespersons and brokers who bring in business and follow the rules. Landlords need leasing staff who fill space with suitable tenants. Lenders and advisory firms need appraisers whose valuations hold up under review. Behind all of them sit administrators who keep files, deposits and listings in order. The wrong person in any of these seats can cost you clients and create compliance problems.

Finch Employment runs retainer searches for brokerages, developers, landlords and valuation firms in Toronto, the GTA and across Canada. We start with a consultation about your business model, your market and the registration or designation the role needs. We then advertise, source and screen candidates, check their status with RECO or the Appraisal Institute of Canada where relevant, and present a shortlist. We arrange the interviews and follow up after the start date.

Why real estate hiring takes a specialist

Top-producing agents rarely answer job postings, so reaching them takes direct, confidential approaches and a clear case for why your brokerage is a better fit.

Registration rules under TRESA shape who can do what, from salespersons and brokers to the broker of record and unregistered administrative staff.

Sales figures quoted in interviews are hard to verify, and where a candidate's business comes from tells you more than a headline volume number.

Commercial, leasing and appraisal roles each need specialized experience that a general recruiter may not know how to test in an interview.

How we screen real estate candidates

  • RECO registration status and history, or AIC designation for appraisers
  • Transaction history, deal types and the sources of the candidate's business
  • Knowledge of representation, disclosure and record-keeping rules under TRESA
  • Client service, negotiation and follow-up habits shown through specific examples
  • Eligibility to work in Canada and fit with your pay model, whether commission, salary or both

Real estate recruitment: questions employers ask

Do you recruit only for brokerages, or also for in-house real estate roles?

Both. Most searches are for brokerages adding salespersons, brokers or managers. We also recruit for developers, landlords and companies with property portfolios that need leasing staff, administrators or in-house appraisers. Every search starts with a consultation, so we understand whether the role needs RECO registration and how your business pays and supports the person you hire.

Can you keep a broker or manager search confidential?

Yes. Many brokerages do not want competitors, or their own agents, to know they are hiring a manager or broker of record. We can advertise without naming you and approach candidates directly, sharing your identity only once a candidate is suitable and interested. The confidentiality terms are agreed with you during the consultation, before any outreach begins.

Can you recruit real estate professionals outside Ontario?

Yes. Searches for employers elsewhere in Canada are run by phone and video from our Toronto office. Real estate registration is provincial, so candidates need to be licensed or registered in the province where they will trade, for example with RECA in Alberta or BCFSA in British Columbia. We confirm the requirement with you before the search starts.
