Finch recruits licensed plumbers, pipefitters, gas fitters and HVAC and refrigeration technicians for contractors and facilities across the GTA.

Plumber installing copper pipes in a mechanical room

Plumbing, gas and HVAC work affects the safety of the people inside every building you service. Hiring for these roles means confirming the right Skilled Trades Ontario certificate, TSSA gas technician level or refrigerant handling certification before anyone touches a system. Finch Employment recruits mechanical trades for plumbing and HVAC contractors, builders, property managers and facilities departments across Toronto, York, Peel, Durham and Halton.

We start with a consultation about the systems you install or maintain, whether the work is residential, commercial or industrial, and whether the role involves service calls or new construction. With the retainer in place, we advertise, source and screen candidates, then arrange interviews with a shortlist of suitable people. After the start date, we follow up with you to see how the new hire is settling in.

Why plumbing and HVAC hiring takes a specialist

Each role carries its own credentials, from the 306A plumber certificate to TSSA gas technician levels, and missing one can keep a technician off the job.

Service technicians represent your company inside customers' homes and businesses, so communication and professionalism matter as much as technical skill.

Residential, commercial and industrial systems differ a great deal, and experience in one does not always transfer quickly to another.

Experienced mechanical trades are often committed to their current employers, which means good candidates usually have to be found and approached directly.

How we screen plumbing & HVAC candidates

  • Skilled Trades Ontario certificates such as 306A or 313A where the role needs them
  • TSSA gas technician certification level for any gas work
  • Refrigerant handling certification for HVAC and refrigeration roles
  • Experience with the systems and building types you service
  • Customer service skills and a valid driver's licence for service roles

Plumbing & HVAC recruitment: questions employers ask

Which certificates should a plumbing or HVAC hire have?

It depends on the work. Plumbers need the 306A certificate of qualification, a compulsory trade in Ontario. Gas work requires TSSA gas technician certification at the right level, and refrigeration and air conditioning roles often call for a 313A certificate and refrigerant handling certification. We confirm the requirements with you during the consultation.

Can you recruit for service and maintenance roles, not just construction?

Yes. We recruit service technicians who handle maintenance, repairs and emergency calls as well as installers for new construction. For service roles we put extra weight on troubleshooting ability, communication with customers and a valid driver's licence, along with the technical certificates the work requires.

How long does a plumbing or HVAC search take?

It depends on the role, the certificates required and how many qualified people are open to a move at the time. Specialized positions such as refrigeration mechanics can take longer to fill than general service roles. We give you regular updates during the search so you always know where things stand.
