Finch Employment

Toronto recruitmentRecruitment for Scarborough employers, from the City Centre to Malvern

Scarborough employers can draw on a diverse local talent pool, yet the right person for a specialized role is still hard to find. Finch runs retained searches for Scarborough hospitals, clinics, offices and plants.

Pharmacist checking a prescription in a community pharmacy

Scarborough covers a lot of ground, and its employers are spread across it: corporate offices around Scarborough City Centre and Consilium Place, three community hospital sites, Centennial College campuses and the University of Toronto Scarborough in the east, and industrial blocks from the Golden Mile up to Malvern. Compared with Toronto overall, a bigger share of Scarborough's workforce is in manufacturing, which shapes the roles we are asked to fill here alongside health care and office positions.

Many of the people you want to hire already live in Scarborough and would happily trade a downtown commute for a job closer to home. Others will only consider an offer if the trip works by bus or GO train. We keep both groups in mind as we search, and we screen every applicant for the licence, designation or hands-on experience your position requires before you set aside time for a single interview.

Who's hiring in Scarborough

Scarborough Health Network

Scarborough Health Network operates three community teaching hospitals: Scarborough General near Lawrence Avenue East and McCowan Road, Centenary on Ellesmere Road, and Birchmount in Agincourt. SHN is also the teaching hospital partner of the University of Toronto's new Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health. Family practices, pharmacies and labs across the area compete for the same licensed workforce.

City Centre offices

Scarborough City Centre, bounded roughly by Highway 401 and Ellesmere Road, remains one of Toronto's business districts outside downtown, with the office towers of Consilium Place and the Scarborough Civic Centre at its core. Head offices and regional teams based here hire accountants, HR coordinators, customer service leads and administrative staff, often people who live within a short drive.

Manufacturing and the Golden Mile

The Golden Mile on Eglinton Avenue East began as an industrial strip, and industrial uses still hold on along its side streets, while further north there are industrial units on Tapscott Road in Malvern. Manufacturers and distributors in these pockets need manufacturing engineers, quality assurance managers and production supervisors who can keep a line running to specification.

Campuses and automotive training

Centennial College's Ashtonbee campus trains automotive and motive power technicians, its Morningside campus focuses on health and environmental sciences, and the University of Toronto Scarborough beside it is known as U of T's co-op campus. That flow of trained graduates helps when you need a 310S automotive service technician, a pharmacy technician or a junior analyst.

Working with Finch from Scarborough

Our office near Dufferin and Steeles is across the city from most Scarborough sites, so many Scarborough searches start with a video consultation. When a role calls for it, we visit your workplace by appointment, taking Highway 401 east to the City Centre, Agincourt or Malvern. Either way, we go through the position, the shifts, the pay range you have in mind and how your team works before the retainer is set.

Transit matters a great deal in Scarborough. Line 3 closed for good in July 2023, buses now carry riders between Scarborough Centre and Kennedy station, and the Line 2 extension is still under construction. We ask each candidate exactly how they would reach your site, especially for early hospital shifts or plants east of Markham Road, and we include that in the screening notes that come with your shortlist.

Recruiting in Scarborough: common questions

Can you recruit nurses and pharmacists for Scarborough employers?

Yes. We recruit registered nurses, registered practical nurses, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians for hospitals, long-term care homes, clinics and community pharmacies in Scarborough. We look up each candidate on the College of Nurses of Ontario or Ontario College of Pharmacists public register, depending on the role, before their name reaches your shortlist.

Our business is in Malvern, near the Rouge. Will candidates travel that far east?

Often, yes. North-east Scarborough sits close to Highway 401 and to neighbouring Markham and Pickering, so we search those communities as well as the rest of Toronto. We confirm each person's commute before an interview is booked, so you do not spend time on someone who cannot reach you reliably on your schedule.

Can you help us hire graduates from Scarborough's campuses?

We can include recent graduates when a role suits someone early in their career. Scarborough is home to the University of Toronto Scarborough and several Centennial College campuses, and we screen new graduates as carefully as experienced applicants, checking skills, references and placements. Every candidate we present is already eligible to work in Canada.
