Finch Employment

Recruitment across CanadaRecruitment agency for employers across Ontario

Finch is based in North York, and many of our searches are for employers in Ottawa, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, London and communities further north. The process and the retainer model are the same; the meetings happen by phone and video.

Ontario outside the GTA is not one labour market. An engineering firm in Kitchener-Waterloo competes with tech companies for the same graduates, a clinic in Sudbury may be recruiting a physician to a community with fewer local candidates, and a manufacturer in Windsor needs licensed trades who understand automotive production. Finch treats each of these as its own search. We start with where the job is, what the commute or relocation looks like, and whether the right person is likely to live nearby or will need to be drawn from elsewhere in the province.

Because Finch is an Ontario business, we work with Ontario's licensing system every day. Physicians registered with the CPSO, nurses with the College of Nurses of Ontario, P.Eng. holders with PEO and tradespeople holding Skilled Trades Ontario certificates of qualification are checked the same way whether the job is in North York or Thunder Bay. Candidates must already be eligible to work in Canada. The retainer is agreed per position before we begin, and you are involved at each stage, from the first consultation to follow-up after the start date.

Local hiring

Hiring in Ontario's regional markets

Ottawa and eastern Ontario

Ottawa's economy leans on the federal public service and a technology cluster in Kanata, so private employers often compete with government for IT, project management and administrative talent. Kingston adds Queen's University and a strong health and education sector. Bilingual English and French candidates are frequently requested in this part of the province, and we confirm that need at the start.

Hamilton and Niagara

Hamilton's steel and advanced manufacturing base sits alongside McMaster University and a large hospital network, which keeps demand high for engineers, maintenance trades and health professionals. Niagara's wineries, tourism and cross-border trade create a different mix: hospitality managers, supply chain staff and drivers who hold the right licence class for the work.

Waterloo Region, Guelph and London

Kitchener-Waterloo is known for software companies and start-ups connected to the University of Waterloo, while Guelph has a concentration of agri-food and life sciences work around the University of Guelph. London combines Western University, a major hospital system and manufacturing. Employers here often hire developers, data specialists, laboratory staff and quality professionals.

Windsor, Barrie and northern Ontario

Windsor's automotive plants and the Ambassador Bridge put automotive technicians, millwrights and logistics staff in demand. Barrie is a growing base for construction and service businesses north of the GTA. In Sudbury and Thunder Bay, mining, health care and public institutions drive hiring, and physician and nursing roles can take longer to fill than in the south.

How we recruit for employers in Ontario

Most searches outside the GTA start with a phone or video consultation. We ask about the role, the team, the hours and the realities of the location, such as whether the job suits someone who already lives nearby or whether relocation support is available. From there we agree the retainer for the position and begin advertising, sourcing and screening. If your business is within reach of North York and you would like to meet in person, we can arrange that by appointment.

Before you see a shortlist, we confirm licences directly with the Ontario regulator where one applies, check that each candidate is eligible to work in Canada and talk through the commute or move with them so there are no surprises later. We set up interviews around your schedule, help with the offer and follow up with you and the new hire after the start date.

  1. Consultation

Tell us about the role, your team and your timeline. We agree on a retainer and fees tailored to the position.

  2. Retainer & search

Your retainer starts the search. We advertise, source and screen candidates for you.

  3. Shortlist & interviews

You meet only suitable candidates. We arrange every interview.

  4. Hire & follow-up

We manage the offer and check in after your new hire starts.

Recruiting in Ontario: common questions

Do you only recruit for employers in Toronto?

No. Toronto and the GTA are our home base, but we regularly run searches for employers elsewhere in Ontario, from Ottawa and Kingston to Windsor, Sudbury and Thunder Bay. Consultations and interviews are handled by phone and video, so the location of your business does not change the process or the standard of screening.

Can you find candidates willing to relocate to a smaller Ontario city?

Often, yes. We look for people with a genuine reason to choose your area, such as family ties, lifestyle or a shorter commute, and we discuss relocation openly at screening. That way the candidates on your shortlist have already thought through the move, which lowers the risk of a late withdrawal.

Do Ontario licensing rules differ from city to city?

No. Professional licences in Ontario are issued province-wide, so a CPSO registration or a Skilled Trades Ontario certificate of qualification applies anywhere in the province. Some employers add their own requirements, such as hospital privileges for physicians or site-specific safety training, and we build those into screening once you tell us about them.
