What a cybersecurity analyst does
A cybersecurity analyst protects your systems and data by monitoring for suspicious activity, investigating alerts, responding to incidents and finding weaknesses before attackers do. Depending on the role, the work may include managing security tools, running vulnerability scans, reviewing access, training staff to recognize phishing and supporting audits or compliance requirements. In larger teams, analysts often work in a security operations centre with defined shifts and escalation paths.
A security hire needs technical skill and sound judgment. An analyst who ignores real alerts is dangerous, and one who escalates everything creates noise. Finch screens candidates for hands-on experience with security tools, their incident handling, how they prioritize risk and how clearly they report to leadership. Because the role involves privileged access, we also confirm candidates are willing to complete the background checks your organization requires.
